FitHAUS Featured Athlete - Shadia Tobkin

Please join us in recognizing March FitHAUS Featured athlete Shadia Tobkin. Shadia is newer to FitHAUS, and we have LOVED having her in this community. Shadia will tell you, she was nervous to start, but she built up the courage to try something new. Shadia has learned so much, pushed herself and has committed to attending regularly. If you’ve ever taken a class with Shadia, you know that you are bound to smile and laugh in her presence. She brings energy and light to everything she’s involved in.

Shadia, we are all so proud of you! We know it was overwhelming to walk through the doors, but you are absolutely crushing it! We are thrilled to have you as part of our FitHAUS community and we can’t wait to watch you continue to conquer new skills. You should be SO proud of yourself for taking that first step, as you now know, that is the hardest part…except maybe for burpees;)

Please read below to learn a little more about Shadia.

Hello everyone! I am Minnesota girl to the core and live in Maple Plain with my family —Husband Nick, daughters Layla (4th) and Medira (2nd) and 2 dogs. I am an Event and Meeting Producer, Director of Programming for Girls Rise Up, Podcast host: @Piecesofyoupodcast and Orono PTO President. I clearly like to be busy and thrive on connection. We love spending time on Big Kandi kayaking, tubing, walking the gravel road and taking in the sunshine!

2. What made you decide to join FitHAUS? What were you doing prior to coming to FH? I have driven past FH for 10 years and have had a lot of preconceived notions. Come to find out… 99% were inaccurate. I joined FH this Fall because I wanted classes that were motivating and would push me. I have always been active with walking and biking, but I wanted to incorporate weights with my local community.

3. What is your favorite thing about FitHAUS? The instructors who push me and fellow athletes that sing/dance with me and make me laugh my a** off.

4. What are some of the accomplishments related to physical fitness that you are most proud of & what are your fitness goals moving forward? I have increased my weights by 10-15lbs and am finally figuring out the barbell. It’s the little things!

5. How has being physically active bettered your life outside of the gym?
I am sleeping so much better and feel more confident in myself.

6. What is your favorite class or movement/skill? What is your least favorite movement?

Fave - Strength and conditioning (the warm up so I can chat;)

Least - burpees or box jumps (barf)
7. What advice would you give to someone looking to join FITHAUS? Find a friend to come with you and ask all the “dumb” questions. Everyone is the new kid at some point. Don’t take yourself too seriously… we’re all just trying to get through the day.
