FitHAUS Featured Athlete Heidi Wiebusch
This week, we are thrilled to feature FitHAUS Athlete Heidi Wiebusch. Anyone who knows Heidi knows that she might be the kindest, most caring individual on the planet. What you might not know, is that she is undoubtedly also one of the toughest. Her inner strength matches the grit you see when she is working in the gym.
Heidi, as a busy working mom, we are so proud of you for taking time for you and for making health and fitness a priority in your life. You are certainly inspiring to others, and setting such a great example for your boys. We know that 5:30am time is early, but your hard work, consistency and dedication pays off. We see you pushing through even the toughest of workouts with more weight on the barbell, and faster than ever. Before you know it, you’ll string those “zillion” pull-ups together and be walking across the gym on your hands.
Thank you for being such a huge part of the FitHAUS community. You not only show up every day with a smile, but have volunteered yourself (and your boys) for so many of our events. We are grateful to be able to watch you grow as an athlete, and know you as a friend.
Please check out Heidi’s bio to learn a little more about her and her family. And most importantly, next time you see her in the gym, show her some love and give her a fist bump!
1. Tell us a little bit about yourself:
Hi! I am Heidi Wiebusch and when I am not at the gym or having fun outside, I work full time as a Speech Language Pathologist for Children’s Minnesota. I also work alternating Saturdays at North Memorial Hospital. I absolutely love what I do, and my profession continues to bring me joy and challenges weekly! I attended the College of Saint Benedict for my undergraduate degree, and Minnesota State University Mankato for my Graduate degree. I have three sons who continue to keep life interesting and adventurous! I also have 2 devoted and silly dogs. My favorite things to do are camping, hiking, skiing, biking, anything that involves tenting, backpacking, paddling, and traveling everywhere. The boys and I traveled to Alaska last summer, and consider it one of our greatest trips ever! Many of you also know I love animals, and my chickens enjoy providing eggs for FitHaus friends ☺
2. What made you decide to join FitHAUS? What were you doing prior to coming to FH?
I have been a part of FitHaus since it opened. It has been an important place for me and for my boys. Although we have seen many changes, FitHaus has always remained a solid rock for us.
3. What is your favorite thing about FitHAUS?
My favorite thing about FitHaus are the people and the community it provides. I cannot even begin to express the love and support this community has provided me and my family. FitHaus is truly more than a gym: it is a group of people who are dedicated to being healthy, both in mind and body, and also care about being authentic individuals. The depth of dedication to lifelong fitness and overall wellbeing is obvious. Everyone works as hard as they can, and the respect is always mutual.
4. What are some of the accomplishments related to physical fitness that you are most proud of. Do you have any fitness goals moving forward?
My biggest accomplishments this year were finally nailing down the 5:30 am class as a routine, increasing my overall physical strength, and making time for my own fitness goals. In 2022 I would like to get a handle on handstand walking, and maybe a zillion kipping pullups!
5. How has being physically active bettered your life outside of the gym?
Being physically active has improved my life beyond the gym by giving me increased energy, strength and endurance for doing the things I love, like biking, skiing and running. I enjoy being able to do a 5k with my boys, hop on a singletrack or paddle around at any time. My goal is to be as active and strong as I can be for my entire life, and continue to enjoy the outdoors and all adventures life has to offer.
6. What is your favorite class or movement/skill? What is your least favorite movement...like the one that causes the biggest eye roll when your coach says we are doing "X" today;)
My favorite movements are just about any DB or barbell movement, burpees are a favorite, and I also love deadlifts and back squats. My least favorite EVER is sled pushing in the summer heat. If that is in the workout, you will find me down at the beach.
7. What advice would you give to someone looking to join FITHAUS?
My advice to anyone who is thinking of joining FitHaus: if you want to be surrounded by great people, learn new things, and do something great for your body and your wellbeing, then this is the place! You could not make a better choice- and you will never regret a minute spent at this gym and with these amazing people☺
